Summary

In Chapter Eight, the wolf took Willa to a beautiful lake guarded by an ancient white bear. Willa’s Mamaw had told her of the lake that the Cherokee called Atagahi. It was a powerful healing place that usually only other bears were allowed to use. However, the white bear allowed Willa to go into the lake and heal herself. While she was floating in the warm water, the man and his dog appeared in the horizon. Willa wished with all her might that he would turn away without seeing them because she did not want a battle between the wolves, bears, and the man. He turned away and Willa felt relieved.
