Summary

The novel is narrated in third-person past with a centralized narrative focal point on the main character, Willa, a young Faeran girl who had the power to cloak herself in the darkness of the forest. In the first chapter, she crept through the woods to a human’s house so that she could rob valuable items to bring back to her tribe. The front door was locked, but she snuck in through the dog door.

In Chapter Two, Willa walked inside the house and looked for valuable items. She crept through the living room and saw a photo of a man, a woman, and their two young children. She wanted to steal as much as she could to impress the padaran of her clan, who sent her and the other jaetters out each night. He beat the jaetters who disappointed him and rewarded...
