Summary

In Chapter 6, Gabe returned to Dev’s house. Dev had a panic attack and went outside to try to calm himself down. He recalled being intensely bullied at school. He lost all of his friends because they were exasperated with his refusal to stand up for himself, which his height meant he could easily have done. Instead, Dev tolerated attacks from bullies at school, particularly from one boy named Joel Calmer, without fighting back and suspected that his passivity aggravated them further. Late one night, feeling he could no longer cope with the bullying, Dev decided to try to kill himself by jumping off a nearby cliff which he walked to barefoot.
