Summary

The next chapter is titled “Shell Gas Station.” The subtitle reads: “Beverly and Hayworth; 10/15/57.” Freddy still works as a security guard at the market, is a licensed PI, and still picks up work for divorce lawyers. Though Nasty Nat is Black and still works at the radio station, he also works with Freddy. Freddy spends a lot of time with Robbie, calling him “my new Jimmy D” (281). They plan to photograph a cheating husband having sex with a young Black girl. When Freddy hears her screaming for real, he races in, finds the man brutalizing the girl, and beats the man.
