Relationships

One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. The two primary relationships the novel tackles are romantic relationships and relationships between friends.

Friendship is one of the primary types of relationships the novel tackles. Ed and Min both put more stock in their relationships with their friends than they do with their own family members. Additionally, Ed's teammates are almost more important to him than anyone else. Although, many of Ed's friends are also his teammates.

The novel also delves into romantic relationships. While Min had one other boyfriend, Ed is the boy that she has had the deepest and strongest feelings for, and has lost her virginity. The novel focuses on how opposites attract because Min and Ed lead very different lives. additionally, however, their differences is also what ends tearing Ed and Min apart.
