Point of View
The short stories collected in Why I Don't Write are written from a series of different points of view. "Polepole" is written from a third person perspective following the main character Daisy's experiences in Kenya. "The Torch" is written from the third person point of view, and the narrator follows both the dying woman and Andrew's thoughts and feelings. "Occupied" is also a third person narrative, and inhabits the main character Ivy's point of view. The third person narrator of "Green Glass" traces the exchanges between Fran and Tom as they attempt to navigate their romantic relationship. While the narrator of "Why I Don't Write" largely appears in the form of first person pronouns, many of the story's passages also seems to originate from a disembodied narrative voice.
