Summary
In "Polepole," Daisy sleeps with a man her friend, Bragg, introduced her to at an engagement party the night before. On their way home from the party, the man suddenly pulled over insisting "he needed to kiss her" (5). Daisy realized she had been waiting for this "sort of moment" since arriving in Kenya (5).
Lying in bed together now, the sun is bright in the room. The man worries about his servant, Edmond. Daisy suggests they get to work. The man is enamored by her. Daisy studies his unlined face. They talk about the local people, and Edmond's wives and children. They live in Kibera, "one of the largest slums in the whole world" (9). Daisy thinks the mess in the adjoining room looks like a slum. Sometimes she wonders why she is in Kenya at all, trying to convince herself her documentary...
