Summary
Chapter 32 – The next morning, Rich wakes up in a panic about what he fears is going to happen to him – his home, his children, his wife. “Did I even see [Robin] anymore, or did I only see things I imagined, the lie of my hate-filled projections, the cartoon of a wife I’d created?” (262). He then imagines his life in relation to the socio-political climate of America at the time, its particular brand of conservativism and Amy’s connection to it. This leads him to memories of their last lovemaking session, after which she first asked him to ask her to stay, then made plans for redecorating the barn in which the dormitory has been constructed, and then, finally, reminded him of how awful her life with her husband has been.
