Summary
Chapter 13 – Rich describes in narration how, a week after his encounter with Amy at her home, her oldest daughter Lily suffered a serious brain hemorrhage which, he says, Amy believed was a consequence of (or a punishment from God for) their meeting. Rich then comments that he tried to cut himself off from her, but did not succeed. He also describes various aspects of his relationship with Robin, starting with her family. He pays particular attention to the story of her brother Eddie, killed in an accident years ago and still haunting the family. He also describes moments of connection and intimacy with her: “…I stood naked where she’d been naked, as though an echo of our once-naked selves intermingled on some alternate plane” (110).
