Summary
The first essay titled "Little Lies" opens with a poem from Alice Notley and a quote by Louise Erdrich that mentions struggles in relationships. Washuta includes footnotes about epigraphs. She asks her brother about a D.A.R.E video and considers him to be more successful than her. He tells her what he remembers, including a potential Phil Collins’ song, but Washuta gets frustrated when she cannot find it. Then, she says the meaning behind Phil Collins’ song “In the Air Tonight” is highly disputed, but some think it speaks of a failed relationship.
