Summary

“Chronicle of a Marriage, Foretold” follows Mikki, a writer who has been accepted to a writer’s retreat open specifically to women of Indigenous or third world backgrounds. Mikki is 33 years old and is married, but she appears to find her marriage unfulfilling due to her husband’s general lack of love and generosity. Mikki also knows that her husband is having an affair with a neighbor. While working at the retreat—where each writer’s workspace has been constructed inside of separate caves—Mikki finds herself imagining a more fulfilling, exciting, and generous lover. She sees the man in her dreams, and when she is awake, she involuntarily sees him in her mind and hears her speaking to him.
