Summary
In Chapter 6, Sara's day began in an ordinary way, but the pastor interrupted class and asked to speak with the teacher, Madame Petitjean. Madame Pettijean soon called Sara and Ruth into the hallway. The Nazis had rounded up the Jews in Aubervilliers-aux-Bois, and they were now on their way to the school to get the Jewish children. Madame Petitjean instructed Sara and Ruth that a maquisard would take the Jewish schoolchildren to hide in the woods. Madame Petitjean asked Sara where her coat was. As she put her own scarf onto Sara's neck, she reminded Sara that she was not alone. As the kids left their school, snow started falling. The kids were supposed to go with the maquisard to hide in the woods. Instead, Sara secretly ran to the bell tower and hid in the belfry, because she was afraid of...
