Bruce Bawer is the writer and narrator of the book, While Europe Slept. He is a gay conservative American who has written several books about social injustices and religious extremism. He moves to Europe because he wants to leave the U.S. behind for a while and live in the romanticized cities of Amsterdam and Oslo, though he is not ready for the social phenomena that he encounters.
