Bee Branch is having dinner with her parents. They are praising her for getting such good grades and accolades from her teacher on her recent progress report from eight grade. Bee reminds her parents that if she got perfect grades from Galer Street school, she could have any present she wants. She proposes a trip to Antarctica, which her parents end up agreeing to.

Bernadette Fox, Bee's mother, sends an email to her virtual assistant in India, Manjula Kapoor. Bernadette tells Manjula about Bee getting all A's and asking for a trip to Antarctica. Bernadette hires Manjula to book the travel. Bernadette also shares with Manjula her fear of traveling out of the house in general, and on a cruise ship filled with a bunch of annoying people.
