Chapter Seventeen Summary
In July, Cullen's father begins to probe him where college is concerned. Even his mother joins the bandwagon, asking him which coast he would prefer to live on. Frustrated, Cullen leaves and walks to Ada's but she isn't home either, so he goes to see Lucas, bemoaning the fact that Ada seems to prefer a guy in a wheelchair to the able bodied one she had. The next day, Cullen promises Lucas that he'll stop talking about Ada just as his mother comes home for the first time in three days and announces that Aunt Julia is officially on her own. She tells Cullen that she and Julia had been talking about Oslo as a baby, and Julia began talking about heaven and her theory that we all got to become babies again.
