Chapters Six and Seven Summary
Benton's homecoming is less than welcoming, especially from his father who doesn't say a word. Reverend Hughes summons him to inform him that he's reconsidered Benton's duties. When Benton insists the problem wasn't his but where he was sent, and explains his lack of faith in Rameel's ministry, the Reverend tells him he will no longer be going anywhere in a ministerial capacity. When Benton's father finds out, he is so disappointed that he stops talking to Benton entirely. He begins to call the universities where scholarships had been offered before he went to Ethiopia in the hopes that he could simply just go away.
