Chapters Three and Four Summary
Three days a week, Cullen works at the Handy Stop beside I-40. It is easy to get bored, and allow the mind to wander, returning only to service the 'ding, ding' signifying someone had come in. Cullen serves one man, selling him cigarettes. Then Russell and Neil enter, leaving Ada Taylor in the Jeep alone. Cullen daydreams about her until Neil asks him for cigarettes. Cullen refuses, despite Neil's assertions that he is eighteen now. Unhappy with the outcome, he pays for the other items and shouts at Ada to pump the gas in a way that is less than flattering. While she does, they ask him about Oslo, trying to confirm his cause of death. Cullen is tasked with taking his family to the funeral as well. Even Reverend Wells is emotional at the service. On...
