Summary

In Chapter 2, Christophe and Joshua begin filling out applications, including those from fast-food restaurants. Joshua writes neatly on his McDonald's application, while Christophe's application has ink smudges and is barely legible. They have done yard work with Uncle Paul in the past, but the money from this is not reliable for the long-term. The twins “grew up tailoring their needs to fit the amount of expendable cash they had available” (29). Joshua tended to buy cheaper shoes so that he could also buy a new shirt. Christophe would save for “the latest Jordans” without worrying about clothes. They had made a list of possible employers the previous evening, including fast-food, a grocery store, convenience stores, and big box stores – Wal-Mart and K-Mart.
