Summary
Part 2, Chapter 17 – Novalee finds a Rollei camera at a yard sale. It is old and battered, but is in working order. Novalee buys it for thirty dollars. Moses repairs the camera for her. The next day, Novalee goes out with Americus and photographs everything she can find. She works in the Whitecottons’ dark room late into the night, developing her photos. Friends and neighbors love her work and begin giving her film as gifts. They ask for photos and beg to pay her. Novalee refuses. Forney brings her books on photography and books about photographers, and Novalee consumes them.
In late November, Novalee goes up to Rattlesnake Ridge to capture the sunrise. In the early dawn light, she notices movement nearby, but she decides to go on, imagining there must be a deer. She photographs the sunrise in all its...
