Kinney Cottage
The Kinney Cottage is where Jo lives for the summer while undergoing her research project about bird nests. The Cottage is well outside the small town of Vienna, Illinois, and at the very end of Turkey Creek Road. The Cottage is also far enough from its nearest neighbor, the Nash farm, that it cannot be seen. George Kinney and his wife, Lynne, had originally built the cottage before they moved to the University at Champagne-Urbana. After moving, they opened it up for use by graduate students.
Nash family farm
The Nash family farm is neighbors with the Kinney cottage in the forests outside of the small town of Vienna. The farm is where Katherine and Arthur Nash first gave birth to their daughter, Lacey.
