Summary
Chapter 30 takes place in 1967. Kya is extremely upset following the revelation of Chase’s marriage. She realizes that she has been used and manipulated. She calms herself slightly by reciting poetry by Amanda Hamilton, a poet. Chapter 31 takes place in 1968. Kya is now 22 years old. A book written by her—The Sea Shells of the Eastern Seaboard—is scheduled to be published soon, and she looks forward to writing more books. She has become highly knowledgeable in her field due to her self-teachings. Kya gives a copy to Jumpin’ and also sends a copy to Tate. Kya learns that her family owns the marsh, and she plans to pay the back taxes on it with the money from her books. Tate visits Kya one day to tell her that he read her book and that it is great.
