Summary

Chapter 23 takes place in 1965. One day, Kya encounters Chase in the marsh. They spend the rest of the day together and even kiss. Chase tries to initiate sex. He is aggressive. Kya hits him and runs away. In Chapter 24, Chase visits Kya at her shack the next day and apologizes for his actions. Kya forgives him, and they go to the nearby fire tower to look at the marsh from above. Kya gives Chase a shell necklace that he made. They then go to Kya’s shack, and Chase is impressed with the many specimens that Kya has found and labeled. Chase says that he is fascinated by Kya and likes her very much.
