Chapters Seven-Eight Summary
Chapter Seven. Smith and Schaffer return to the minstrel's gallery and see that Carraciola, Thomas, and Christiansen have joined the others in the gold drawing room. They are no longer handcuffed, and are all holding brandy snifters. Colonel Kramer raises his glass and then toasts the three men, calling them the finest spies in Europe; the actor playing General Carnaby smashes his glass and calls the three men traitors to England. Colonel Kramer nods to Anne-Marie, who leaves through a side door and returns a moment later with a tray holding a hypodermic needle and a vial of truth serum. As she is about to inject the actor, Smith and Schaffer come down into the hall from the minstrel's gallery, their submachine guns cocked and ready. Smith then tells Colonel Kramer that he will get nothing out of his prisoner because...
