Summary

In Chapter 28, Lily sneaks back upstairs from her encounter with the tiger to find her mother snacking on kimchi because she cannot sleep. They share a rare moment of alone time, just the two of them. In Chapter 29, it is the following afternoon when Lily awakes from oversleeping. She sees Sam, her mother, and Halmoni in the kitchen making food, but it is not for a kosa this time, rather it is just their lunch. Happily, the four of them cook until Halmoni experiences a lapse in memory, suddenly accusing Lily of stealing the pearl pendant Halmoni herself had given her mere days earlier. Lily’s mother steps in to put Halmoni to rest in a separate room but Lily and Sam run out the door, scared of the changes taking place in their grandmother’s mind.
