Summary
In Chapter 41, Alex struggles with the idea that she will not be able to hold Beatrice or braid her hair if Beatrice becomes a dragon all the time. Alex does tell Marla that Dr. Gantz wants to visit, and is surprised when Marla and Edith invite him to Christmas dinner. Alex also struggles with the fact that she and Beatrice were alone for years and are now surrounded by others. Alex often walks Beatrice home from school. On the last day of school before Christmas, Sonja joins them briefly, then leaves Alex to spend time with Beatrice. Alex watches as Beatrice briefly develops some scales. Alex worries about the outcome if Beatrice dragons at school, but she has several dragons in her university classes and knows social attitudes overall are changing. Beatrice is obviously unhappy. At home, Alex realizes she needs the advice...
