Darwin’s Dreadlocks
Darwin’s dreadlocks are symbols of his vow that he took about cutting his hair. As a Rasta, Darwin is forbidden from cutting his hair. He is also not supposed to have any dealings with dead people. When Darwin breaks his vow and takes a job at a cemetery, he also cuts off his dreadlocks and shaves his head.
Keys
The keys are symbols of deceit. Errol gives Darwin a set of keys to the cemetery because he is the one in charge of locking up and claims that he is the only one who has the keys. The night that Darwin intends to run away with Yejide, he locks himself in the cemetery believing that he will be safe there.
