Summary
In "Little Elk," Clive noticed that the Native American he had seen was "watching Two" (149). His name was Little Elk and he had taken up the habit of "monitoring Two" Little Elk visited the animals (149). Because Two was Native, Little Elk was drawn to her. When he was a child, his people and "the white people" fought violently (150). Little Elk's people wanted "to kill the invaders" in order to protect their land (150). After a long battle, they thought they had won, but the whites "attacked again" (152). Little Elk "died in agony" during this battle (152). Little Elk was haunting the area because "his death had not been avenged" (152). Throughout his time as a spirit, Little Elk learned that tobacco made him stronger.
