The town
All of the novel's scenes take place within the same small, unnamed town. The town is incredibly small, and everybody within the town frequently gossips about one another, as everyone seems to be well-aware of everyone else's business. The town's major geographical feature is a river, where the citizens gather during the fall each year to float decorated pumpkins down the river. Accordingly, there are many different pumpkin farms in the town, including the Bonner farm.
Bonner Farm
The Bonner Farm is a pumpkin farm within the town but, more importantly, it is the home of the four mysterious, seductive, red-headed Bonner sisters. Many of the scenes in the novel take place on the Bonner Farm, as Sam works in the pumpkin fields as his after-school job.
