Miel
Miel is a teenage girl who lives in the town, in a house with Aracely, as next-door neighbors to Sam and Yasmin. While Miel has for the most part adjusted to the life of a normal high-schooler, her biography is full of mysterious and magical events. Miel has a stem embedded her wrist that regularly grows roses, which are believed to have magical properties. Miel is also an orphan who was taken in by Aracely: she was mysteriously discovered in the water of the town's old water tower when the town congregated to knock the tower over. Throughout the course of the novel, Miel uncovers repressed memories about her childhood in moments of great distress. In particular, these memories involve her unnamed parents going to extreme and even abusive lengths to find ways to stop the roses from growing on her wrist.
