Summary
The first chapter of the novel, “Sea of Clouds,” describes how, before the teenagers Sam and Miel were widely known in their small hometown as Honey and Moon, Miel arrived in the town in an unusual and magical way. One day, when Sam was a small child, the town gathered to knock over the old water tower, which had fallen into disrepair. When the water tower was knocked over, and all of the water inside of it spilled into an empty field, everyone was startled to discover Miel, then an unknown young girl, had been in the water.
After Sam initially approaches Miel, extending an offer of friendship, the town decides that the young woman named Aracely will take care of Miel as an unofficial parent. Miel also has mysterious roses that grow from an unexplained stem on the inside of her wrist...
