Part Three, The Wilderness: Chapters 28-30 Summary
Two months after leaving the Limpopo river, they arrive in the settlement at Louis Trichardt. Sean finds the doctor, and after looking at Katrina he tells Sean he should thank his maker that she survived both the malaria and the loss of her child. Katrina will require a year of healing. Six months from now, Sean should give her another child to replace the one she lost, but most of all, he tells Sean, love her. The doctor refuses payment, but Sean instructs Mbejane to take him a large tusk. Three days later they begin the last leg of their journey.
