Part Three, The Wilderness: Chapters 19-21 Summary

Mbejane helps Katrina to clean Sean's wounds. She brings him food, he eats and then sleeps again. Mbejane builds him an open sided shelter to allow air circulation around his wounds, and a bed of poles and leather thongs. Katrina goes to get pillows and blankets and Sean slowly heals. In the mornings he holds court from his bed, and discusses everything from the health of the oxen to hunting conditions. Finally, after much longer than really necessary, Katrina finally allows Sean to get up, and after a week of hobbling around camp, the unsteadiness leaves his legs. One evening he hunts fresh meat with Mbejane, and he manages to kill an eland. Mbejane goes back to get servants to help carry it to camp. They eat well, but Katrina seems distant. Finally...
