Part Three, The Wilderness: Chapters 16-18 Summary
Sean decides he will show her how displeased he is with her behavior, but sitting next to her he finds himself talking up a storm. The rain holds for three days, and together they walk, collect mushrooms and talk. The nights are hard, and Sean finds himself making excuses to touch her, but though she wants him to, she is fearful. Once he promises to do no more than kiss her (under penalty of never being able to touch her again), she allows him closer. Finally the river drops enough to get the wagons across. The last wagon holds Sean, Katrina and the servants.
