Part 2, Witwatersrand: Chapters 1-3 Summary
Sean and Mbejane turn north from Peitermaritzburg, and head for the mountains. Mbejane walks far behind Sean, leaving him to his dark thoughts and feelings. Sean rides until they reach Dundee, intending to ride through and camp on the other side, but the sounds of men change his mind. He tells Mbejane to make camp and in no time is in a bar fight with a belligerent drunk. He is ready to take them all on but gets a hand from Dufford Charleywood. Duff jokes with him, and when introductions are made, Duff takes two down and backs off to let Sean finish. Sean is not as graceful as Duff, but still accomplishes the task. Duff offers to pay the bartender for the damages, but instead, he takes Duff and Sean into the back room and shows...
