Part 1, Natal: Chapters 31-32 Summary
Garry goes down the hall with the intention of killing Sean. He throws open the door and sees the scratches on Sean's face. His anger takes him past reason, and Sean never even moves as Garry raises the pistol. "She told you?" is all he can ask. Holding it with both hands, he is shaking and but when Sean softly sympathizes with him, he loses it. Garry believes Sean attacked Anna, and Sean believes Garry is angry because Sean is the father of Garrick's child. Garry throws the pistol at him and as it glances off his face it fires harmlessly. Garry tells Sean they are done forever and stumbles blindly out. Each step amplifies his misery and he continues until the rain swollen banks of the Baboon Stroom prevent him from going any further.
Sean leaves...
