Summary
Pages 195 - 213 -- Jacob feels "depleted and empty" after the funeral, but he goes to Sabbath worship. Later at home he reassures Mike that he can stay with him, and that they enjoy having his family there. Jacob is awoken by the most gunfire he has heard yet, and a few hours later a group of armed men, including Bill Smith, come to the door. They had found the men who killed Isaak and his family hiding in the Johanson's farm, and had shot and killed most of them. Two escaped, and the men wanted permission to search through Jacob's fields for them. Jacob agrees, and Mike joins the group of men in their search. The next evening the two escaped men approach Jacob, holding Jacob the younger hostage. They demand food, and Jacob and his son go to get it while the men...
