Omar Mohamed
Omar Mohamed is the main character of the memoir, and the memoir is told from his first person point of view. He is also the narrator for the memoir and the reader experiences the refugee camp and system through his perspective. He is the older brother of Hassan, and in the care of Fatuma. His friends sometimes call him the nickname Dantey, or someone who kind of keeps to themselves. The memoir starts with Omar at roughly age 11 though he is not sure, “because I don’t know when my birthday is,” and follows him through age 18 (42).
