Summary

Part 3 begins on pages 220 - 221, which is another birds eye view of the camp at night, similar to the image on Part 2, only now there are more tents in the neighborhood, with the caption “four years later” (221). Page 222 starts with Omar and Jeri walking and Omar explains how he is now 17. He and Jeri have passed their KCPE exams (which the asterisk explains are a Kenyan primary education certificate) and the whole neighborhood is proud of them for going to high school. Every night he washes his uniform by hand to keep it nice. He almost could not attend because he could not afford the uniform, but Susana bought one for him. He explains that Hassan is bigger, and Maryam is pregnant again. She is grateful for Hassan’s help with her first daughter, Nimo. Maryam still studies, and helps the other girls...
