Summary
Chapter 12 begins with Omar, Fatuma, and Hassan waking up outside the UN office. They wait until they are called, and when they are, Omar feels very nervous. The officer begins the interview in English, but they have an interpreter there to help. Page 176 shows the translation back and forth between Somali and English between the officer and the interpreter and Omar. The officer asks where he was born and what he remembers. Omar starts to answer, then page 178 changes the color palette to one full picture of Omar with his mother and father on a blanket under a tree, with a more muted and sepia tone, and blurred lines around each image. Page 179 reverts back to the present as the officer asks him more questions about why he left, and pages 180 - 182 stay in the memory color palette, with only black lines around...
