Summary

Chapter 6 begins as school lets out. The semester is over, and the kids are about to have a month off. He and Jeri check the school rankings and he is number 33, and Jeri is number 12. They check the list of the girls, and Maryam is number one. That night they play hide and seek in the dark and as it starts to get very dark, Jeri tells Omar his father is at the UN office. He tells Omar his father bribed a man to put their paperwork to the top of the pile, and Omar feels dread thinking of Jeri leaving him and that he will never make it to America without any money. Suddenly Hassan says Hooyo, ruining their hiding space, and the other kids find them.
