Primrose Villa

Primrose Villa is where the couple lives. It is here that the abuse begins, and the narrator is separated from all of the people that she knows. Her husband verbally abuses her, hits, kicks, and throws things at her, rapes her, and threatens to kill her here. The only place she feels any control is in the kitchen because this is where her husband likes to think their life is idyllic. One day, however, he gets angry and messes up the entire kitchen.

Mangalore

Mangalore is where the couple moves after they get married. The narrator does not speak the language. She cannot get a job at her husband’s college like she was supposed to because they only employ one person per household there. She becomes secluded and sometimes does not leave the home for many days at a time.
