In Chapter 5, Colleen cried as she waited at Wilmington airport, thinking about the son she had lost. She remembered her father coming to rescue her at school, when she had her first period and he brought in a change of clothes. She reminisced over her law school days, having fun with friends and falling in love with Scott. In the car, Winston told her about Rodney. He refrained from asking her personal questions, but Marie hassled her when they got home. Before phoning Scott, Colleen thought about his promising career, and the decision she had made to postpone her own career so she could have their unplanned baby.
