Summary
Chapter 1 is told from Dimple’s third person perspective. It starts with Dimple Shah feeling excited about attending Stanford in the fall, and trying to figure out how to talk her parents into letting her attend Insomnia Con that summer. Insomnia Con is a summer program for high school students to learn basic web development, held at San Francisco State University. Dimple is unsure how to ask her parents about the program, since they are not wealthy and she is sure they only let her go to Stanford to find her “I.I.H. - Ideal Indian Husband” (2). When Dimple walks downstairs, after adjusting her salwar kameez, her mother is critical of her looks - asking her why she is not wearing Kajaal, a potted eyeliner.
