Summary

It is 11:05 p.m. when Maurice stands outside the door of the honeymoon suite at the Rainsford House Hotel. He tells Kevin that is where he will die. He feels guilty when he thinks of the people he will leave behind, particularly Kevin because Kevin deserved much more from him.

Inside the room, Maurice sets down the bottle of whiskey. He tries to remember what the room looked like the night of Kevin’s wedding. He waltzes around the room, pretending he is dancing with Sadie as he danced with her on that night. As he dances, he remembers all the highs and lows of their life together. He dances until he falls, exhausted on the bed.
