Summary

Chapter 6 details Maurice’s toast to Sadie. It is 10:10 p.m. Maurice tells Kevin that his doctor told him that drinking was not a good way to deal with his loss. Maurice believes the young doctor does not know anything about loss. He does not think anyone really knows about loss until he experiences the loss of a loved one. Maurice explains to Kevin that the reason for the evening is that he wants Sadie back. He finds it difficult to even breathe without her, but he fears Sadie might not want him back.

Maurice narrates how he met Sadie when she was working at the bank. He heard her voice before he ever saw her and made a point to get in her line. Maurice went back the next day and introduced himself. He offered to take her for a walk and dinner...
