Chapters 53 and 54 Summary

In Chapter 53, Momma, Ellen, Amy and Janice come home from the beauty parlor. When Amy looks at the Food Land cake, Gilbert tells her that Arnie got into it so he had to fix it with some frosting the best he could. Gilbert is feeling so guilty that he can't sleep and gets up in the middle of the night to go apologize to Arnie. When he gets to Arnie's room, the window is open and Arnie isn't in his bed. Gilbert searches the town for Arnie and finds him at the public pool with Becky. Becky convinces Arnie to get in the pool to bathe by telling him that Gilbert will leave Endora is Arnie doesn't get clean. When Becky and Arnie finish bathing in the pool and climb over the fence, Gilbert offers them a ride home.
