Chapters 49 and 50 Summary

In Chapter 49, Janice is on the phone and Gilbert tells her that Larry arrived two days early for Arnie's party. The conversation ends in a fight and with the phone dangling from its cord on the kitchen floor. Gilbert goes outside to pretend like he's playing in the sprinkler to try to get Arnie to play in the water too, but Ellen comes home and tells Arnie she has something for him and Arnie follows her inside. When Gilbert gets off work, Becky is sitting on the hood of his truck and he yells at her until she gets off. When Gilbert gets home, he finds his mother talking to herself again and she admits she is talking to his father, then she starts to cry.
