Chapters 33 and 34 Summary

In Chapter 33, Janice and Ellen take Arnie to the Dairy Dream after the parade, while Gilbert and Amy walk home. Amy tells Gilbert that she is stressed out about how to make Arnie's birthday stand out from today. Amy tells Gilbert he is a good brother and person, and with all of his sacrifices, that he deserves someone special. Gilbert remembers that Amy had a trucker boyfriend last summer, but broke up with him when he caught him kissing Janice behind the Grape house. Ellen goes to the bible study party with her co-worker, Amy and Arnie drive Janice to the airport and Gilbert stays home with Momma. When Amy returns with Arnie, Arnie is wearing a Burger Barn paper hat.
