Chapters 31 and 32 Summary
In Chapter 31, Gilbert and Janice arrive home in time for dinner. When Ellen comes home from work, she and Janice go upstairs together. While Amy and Gilbert are sitting in the front yard discussing how much Arnie loved watching the school burn down, Ellen emerges wearing one of Janice's uniforms. Becky calls to tell Gilbert she is meeting her parents in Minneapolis in case he looks for her, which Gilbert says he wasn't planning on looking for her. Finally, Gilbert walks over to where the school used to be to see its charred remains.
