Summary
Thandi recalls the time Aminah became pregnant while she was on a break with Frank. Swearing Thandi to secrecy, Aminah decided to get an abortion. Though they both had strong pro-choice beliefs, Aminah still felt guilty about her actions and cried a lot. Thandi realized she would have done the same thing had she been in her friends shoes, and Aminah did not tell Frank once they got back together. Thandi's mother had a heavy physical toll from her cancer, and Thandi was able to be her caretaker while on summer break from college. Though she did not tell her mother, Thandi thought that cancer was a disease of privilege, as "its cause was endorsed and healthily sponsored" (81).
